If you are fortunate to have elderly loved ones who are able to stay in the comfort of their own home versus a nursing home, are you taking time to visit them on a regular basis? Although you may mean well by calling and checking in, a visit is so much more valuable and fulfilling.
So often, our elderly population is lonely and isolated. Be it from family members and friends living far away or others going home to be with the Lord. Sometimes, family and friends are local but just too caught up in their every day life.
By making time to visit your elderly loved ones, you will accomplish several things:
- You will make them very happy by experiencing joy which will release the feel good hormone endorphin. That feel good hormone will enhance their quality of being
- You will also be able to see how they are living--visual inspection to detect any needs or health problems and report them to the proper discipline
- Conversating with them and observe if they are expressing themselves properly, oriented to reality, eye contact, mannerisms etc..
- Observing if they are well kept and if the home is clean, safe and sound
- If they are able to walk, have them walk in front of you to ensure adequate safety while getting around the home
- Ensuring proper nutrition by bringing them healthy meals
It is imperative to make your presence known if you have an elderly loved one in a nursing facility, assisted living, rehab etc.. You will do them justice by checking in with the nursing staff as well your loved one and making sure everything is satisfactory and on point.
Hopefully you are able to take time and make a difference in your loved ones life. If you are not able to visit regularly, set up family or friends who can make regular visits. If there is no one available to do so consider having a local home health care company make regular visits to ensure your elderly loved one is living life to its fullest!
Wishing you well in all that you do!
